Head Teacher's Blog 6th October 2017

So another week is completed and I can't believe it is only 2 weeks until we break up for half term!

It has been a week of ups and downs, starting on Monday when we completed the Macmillan Coffee Morning with a cake sale at break and lunch time. We raised £350 altogether which is fantastic, huge thanks to all of you who contributed to this very worthy cause.

On Tuesday and Thursday mornings we had our Open Evenings for prospective new students. Both mornings were well attended, Thursday especially so and our staff and students were amazing as always. All of the staff welcomed our visitors into their classrooms and our students were friendly and helpful - with one particular young man in Year 8 asking to speak to our visitors and tell them his thoughts. He was thoughtful and eloquent, our visitors were impressed and so were we. Another example of how our students step up and show how great they are.

Wednesday brought the publication of the OFSTED report following the inspection in July - you can find the report on our website. I was pleased with the observations about how staff care for students and want them to do well - going the extra mile for them - and how our students want to improve. My focus now is to make sure staff and students have the support to make progress and fulfill their potential. Recruiting and retaining quality staff to improve consistency and give our students the best chance of success is a priority for The Peele. We will become an Academy and I will keep you fully informed - I will work hard to minimise any disruption to the students during this time. Our focus, as ever, is our students and their progress and well-being. If you do have any concerns or questions, please contact me at the school.

We are currently looking for new Parent Governors to join our Governing Body. We have a new Chair of Governors, Mr Andrew Everard, and we are looking for parents to join us at this pivotal time for the school. If you are interested, please contact me at the school for more information.

Some advance info for you now - we have our first Super Learning Day on 3rd November and it will be careers focused with a variety of workshops and activities for all year groups. Then on 15th November we have a Careers Fair at the school for students, which will then be open to you all after school from 4.30pm to 7.30pm. There will be a variety of stalls including Apprenticeship advice, National Citizens Service (NCS) and Further and Higher Education providers so it is particularly useful for Year 10 and 11 students. Students are welcome to stay after school until 4pm as well.

Finally, a reminder please to keep us updated with your current contact details. We will be sending letters home soon and it is important that we have up-to-date contact information for all students in case of emergency, and so that we can make sure that you are kept informed about what we are doing as well.

I wish you all a restful weekend and look forward to a productive and positive end to this half term.
